YEARLY OBJECTIVES 2011-2012

 

ALL LITERATURE UNITS ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING STATE OBJECTIVES AS OUTLINED IN THE NC STADARD COURSE OF STUDY.

OBJECTIVES ARE NOT TAUGHT IN ISOLATION.  ALL GOALS IN ENGLISH 9 ARE WORKED WITH ON A DAILY BASIS THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER.  I WILL BE INCORPORATING THE REVISED BLOOM’S TAXONOMY IN ORDER TO PROMOTE HIGHER LEVELS OF THINKING.

 

GOAL 1:  THE LEARNER WILL EXPRESS REFLECTIONS TO PRINT AND NON PRINT TEXT AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES.

1.01              NARRATE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

1.02             RESPOND REFLECTIVELY TO A VARIETY OF EXPRESSIVE TEXTS.

 

GOAL 2:  THE LEARNER WILL EXPLAIN MEANING, DESCRIBE PROCESSES, AND ANSWER QUESTIONS TO INFORM AN AUDIENCE.

2.01               DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO READ ALOUD AND LISTEN

            TO EXPLANATORY TEXT

2.02              EXPLAIN COMMONLY USED TERMS AND CONCEPTS.

2.03              INSTRUCT AN AUDIENCE IN HOW TO PERFORM SPECIFIC

            OPERATIONS OR PROCEDURES

2.04              FORM AND REFINE A QUESTION FOR INVESTIGATION

            USING A TOPIC OF PERSONAL CHOICE AND ANSWER THAT

            QUESTION

 

GOAL 3:  THE LEARNER WILL EXAMINE ARGUMENTATION AND DEVELOP INFORMED OPINIONS.

3.01               STUDY ARGUMENT

3.02              EXPRESS AN INFORMED OPINION

3.03              SUPPORT THAT INFORMED OPINION

 

GOAL 4:  THE LEARNER WILL CREATE AND USE STANDARDS TO CRITIQUE COMMUNICATION.

4.01               EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COMMUNICATION

4.02              READ AND CRITIQUE VARIOUS GENRES

 

GOAL 5:  THE LEARNER WILL DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF VARIOUS LETERARY GENRES, CONCEPTS, ELEMENTS, AND TERMS ASSOCIATED WITH LITERATURE.

5.01               READ AND ANALYZE VARIOUS LITERARY WORKS

5.02              DEMONSTRATE INCREASING COMPREHENSION AND ABILITY TO RESPOND PERSONALLY TO TEXT BY SELECTING AND EXPLORING A WIDE RANGE OF GENRES

 

GOAL 6:  THE LEARNER WILL APPLY CONVENTIONS OF GRAMMAR AND LANGUAGE USAGE.

6.01               DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF CONVENTIONALAL-

            WRITTEN AND SPOKEN EXPRESSION

6.02              DISCERN AND CORRECT ERRORS IN SPOKEN AND WRITTEN

            ENGLISH

 

 

TO MEET THESE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, WE WILL STUDY THE FOLLOWING LITERATURE UNITS.  IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ABOVE, STUDENTS WILL DO THE FOLLOWING:

1.           PRACTICE EDITING SKILLS THROUGH THE USE OF DAILY GRAMMAR PRACTICE.

2.          STUDY VOCABULARY FROM THE LITERATURE.

3.          STUDY THE PARTS OF SPEECH AND DEMONSTRATE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PARTS OF SPEECH.

4.          HONORS STUDENTS WILL STUDY COLLEGE BOUNG VOCABULARY LISTS.  THIS WILL BE DONE WEEKLY THROUGHOUT THE COURSE.

5.         HONORS STUDENTS WILL ALSO READ ADDITIONAL TEXTS.
